Airport Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation

In September, 2022 the Airports Council International launched the Airport Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation program. This accreditation is the first of its kind, and can be awarded to ACI member airports, currently in 183 countries.

The accreditation demonstrates a level of accessibility, and provides continuous improvement. The accreditation is valid for three years. The process is expected to take approximately two weeks.

Airports are required to prioritize national regulations and follow international best practices.

The accreditation also emphasizes universal design in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and showcases an inclusive culture.

The first Airport Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation was awarded to the Istanbul Airport, and the second was awarded to the Toronto Pearson International Airport..

In February, 2023, Airports Council International published a set of accessibility use cases to showcase some of the best airport accessible and inclusive features.
They list solutions like a mobile app helping people with developmental disabilities, sign language availability, or a service animal relief area.

At the moment there is very little information available about the accreditation, I will update this page as information becomes available.
