University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art, map replica

Original and 3D maps side by side

This is a 3D replica of a map for blind children which was used in the late 1800’s in Germany. Because the original map cannot be handled directly, we produced a replica that offers a similar tactile experience. This version can be safely touched.

Alabama State Quarter with Helen Keller

replica coin with original Quarter

This is a magnified replica of the Helen Keller quarter, details of the relief are highly distinguishable. The braille was slightly changed compared to the original, because even on a magnified version it was impossible to feel.

Series of paintings, Centro Leon, Dominican Republic

five tactile paintings

This series of paintings are exhibited by the Centro Leon in the Dominican Republic. Since the exhibit is outside, we used a different material so that it can withstand the weather.

The paintings were simplified to communicate what it may feel like on the original but it could be understood just by touch.

Three 3d buildings

The house of Harriet Beecher Stowe was remodeled twice after the original was built. We have designed a chronological series of scale models, using original drawings, pictures and descriptions. This exhibit shows the original building from the 1840’s, the one after the reconstruction in the 1940’s, and its current state.
