The Lincoln Memorial, located at the western end of the National Mall in Washington, D.C., stands as a timeless tribute to Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, and his enduring legacy of unity and equality. Completed in 1922, the memorial has since been a powerful symbol of national ideals and a gathering place for historic events.

Designed by architect Henry Bacon, the Lincoln Memorial is an extraordinary example of neoclassical architecture. Its design, inspired by ancient Greek temples, features 36 fluted Doric columns, representing the states in the Union at the time of Lincoln’s death in 1865. Inside, a colossal seated statue of Lincoln, sculpted by Daniel Chester French, gazes solemnly over the Reflecting Pool and the Washington Monument, embodying his steadfast resolve during the nation’s most tumultuous times.

Over the past century, the Lincoln Memorial has served not only as a historical landmark but also as a backdrop for pivotal moments in civil rights history, including Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic “I Have a Dream” speech in 1963. It continues to inspire visitors from around the world as a monument to leadership, perseverance, and equality.
